On a street called Uchide Ichiban-dori in Hyogo Prefecture, there was a kissaten that called itself Number One. Not modest. On every table, a matchbox. On that matchbox: a vinyl record in shadow and a white coffee cup catching the light, split across a field of terracotta and deep brown.

This is Showa Modern Japan at its most specific. The era when the kissaten was a genuine cultural institution, when urban cafes ran jazz records on loop and their regulars came not just for coffee but for the particular atmosphere of a room that knew exactly what it was doing. Whoever designed this label understood that instinctively. No figures, no faces. Just two objects and the implication of an entire evening.

We found it in an archival collection and restored it digitally, preserving the woodblock texture and original ink variation. As far as we can tell, it exists nowhere else as a vintage Japanese wall art print.

A natural fit for kitchens, home bars, and anyone who takes their coffee and their music with equal seriousness. One of the most distinctive retro Japanese posters in the collection.
